Benish Propels Lady Warriors to District Final

D2-6 District Final Game Against Paxton Friday

DALTON--On Thursday, February 15, Leyton's Lady Warrior Basketball team faced the Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes for the third time this season, but this matchup was for the D2-11 Subdistrict title. Although the stakes were high, the outcome was no different than in the previous two meetings, with Leyton having no trouble breezing past the Potter-Dix squad and taking the D2-11 title in a 62-to-17 victory.

Leyton junior Zaili Benish had another terrific game, connecting on four three-point shots on her way to a 29 point night. The Lady Warriors shot an outstanding 48% from the floor in the victory. Junior Shawnee Gamble pulled down 8 rebounds and had 6 assists for Leyton.

The Lady Coyotes struggled against the Leyton defense, getting few good looks and scoring only 17 points in the contest. Potter-Dix ends their season with a 7-and-14 record and a runner-up showing in the D2-11 Subdistrict tournament.

Leyton moves on and will host Paxton Friday at 6 p.m. at Leyton High School. The Lady Tigers own a 16-and-9 record, and faced the Lady Warriors early in January. What started as a close match up had the Lady Warriors pull away in the fourth quarter for a 52-to-39 win. The Leyton girls look to get another win against Paxton and advance to the NSAA State Tournament for the second year in a row.
