Roland "Rollie" N. Waite

Roland "Rollie" N. Waite, age 90, of Dalton, NE, passed away in Bridgeport, NE on Monday, March 11, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 18, 2024 at the United Church of the Plains in Dalton, NE with Pastor Leon "Bud" Gillespie officiating. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website. Burial will follow at the Dalton Cemetery in Dalton, NE. Memorials can be made to the Gurley Volunteer Fire Department and the Sidney Elks Club.

Roland "Rollie" Waite was born in his grandparents' home in Sidney, NE to Marie Tank Waite and William Waite. Roland spent his whole life as a farmer, carpenter, and mechanic on the homestead where he was raised. As a child, he attended Center School just a mile or so West of his home until 10th grade. He was confirmed in the Gurley Grace Lutheran Church. Roland attended and graduated from Gurley High School. In 1956, he was drafted into the US Army where he was a cook in Germany. Upon returning home, he joined the Gurley Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a member for 45 years. Roland loved being the "ax man" for the cellar event while competing at the fire tournaments.

Roland was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing and hunting. He married Janet Orr on June 10, 1962 in Lewellen, NE. They built their home West of Dalton in 1970. He was a member of the Sidney Elks Lodge for many years and served as the Exalted Ruler in 1962.

Roland is survived by his wife, Janet, daughter Paula Shafer and husband Jeff of Brighton, CO and son RJ and wife Kate (Myers) of Dalton, NE, three granddaughters, Shelby and husband Keith Miller of Juniata, NE, Kelsey and husband Garrett Westman of St. Cloud, WI and Diedra and husband Evan Reeves of Omaha, NE, six great grandchildren: Riker and Rowyn Miller, and Phoenix, Declan, Reiden and Judah Westman, one sister, Carol Reed of Aurora, CO, nieces Zanthia Albrecht-Reed and family of Parker, CO and Raquel Isenhart and family of Centennial, CO.
