Creek Valley Students Among Those Chosen for 2024 Girl's State

Three Creek Valley Junior students will be attending the Nebraska Cornhusker Girl's State on the University of Nebraska campus in Lincoln June 2-8th. Ava Fraass, Karsyn Burgman and Yreyna Bravo were all selected to represent their school at the all girl's conference this summer in our state capitol.

The program was developed by the American Legion Auxiliary as a citizenship training program in the positive processes of self-government and good citizenship as practiced in democratic societies. Girls State began in the 1930s and has become a regular part of the Auxiliary's Americanism curriculum since 1948. The Girls State program is entirely funded by the ALA with additional support stemming from other civic and non-profit organizations. Because of this, little to no expense is required of the delegates and their families. Each summer approximately 25,000 young women nationwide participate in Girl's States sessions to study local, county and state government; they do this by setting up their own miniature city, county and state governments while administering them according to the procedures and rules set by Nebraska's laws. At Girl's State participants also engage in mock political parties and elections, legislative sessions, campaigning, part rallies, mock trials and debates; they also are instructed in Parliamentary Procedure, according to http://www.girlsstate.net/nebraska/wp/.
