Raider Track Sweeps Mitchell Invite

Leeling Breaks Her Own High Jump Record With 6'1" Jump

MITCHELL--Sidney's Red Raider Track & Field teams traveled to Mitchell on April 4 to compete at the Mitchell Invitational. Despite chilly early conditions, both the Lady Raiders and Red Raider teams had no problem outpacing their rivals, racking up 120 points on the boys side, and 153 points for the girls. For the boys, Gering and Ogallala finished second an third, with 93 and 65 points respectively. For the girls, Gering and Chadron finished second and third, with 83 points and 51 points respectively.

For the Lady Raiders, senior Payton Schrotberger and Karsyn Leeling finished first and second in the 100 meters, and senior Talissa Tanquary finished third in the 200 Meters and won the 400 and 800 Meters. Senior Chloe Ahres won the 100 Meter and 300 Meter Hurdles, and the 4X100 and 4x400 Meter Relay teams both finished second. Karsyn Leeling wowed the crowd again, breaking her own State High School record High Jump by clearing 6' 1". Leeling had broken the state record earlier in the year by clearing 6' at the Sidney Invitational. Freshman Melody Sanchez won the Pole Vault, Schrotberger won the Long Jump, and Leeling had her best jump of the year in Triple Jump, winning the event with a distance of 37' 1".

For the boys team, Isak Doty, Landon Riddle and Lance Holly finished 1-2-3 in the 100 Meters, and 200 Meters. The 4X100 Meter Relay team of Lance holly, Isak Doty, Landon Riddle and Luke Holly took first, breaking a meet record and Sidney high school record with a time of 42.87, nearly two seconds faster than second-place Gering. Matthew Danch placed second in Discus, Kash Knobbe and Alek Doty placed second and third in High Jump, and Landon Riddle won the Long Jump.

Both Red Raider teams took first place by wide margins and the entire team looks to be in mid-season form. The only weaknesses on the teams seems to be in the throwing events and long-distance runs, and it seems freshman long-distance runners Mario Maytorena and Kylee Kampfe are starting to make headway and improve their times as the season progresses. If the Raiders can keep up this pace, they will be a tough team to beat at the end of the season.
