South Platte Natural Resources District Hosts Natural Resources Day

170+ 4th Graders Converge on LodgePole Valley Youth Camp

SIDNEY--On Monday, May 6, over 170 fourth grade students from across Nebraska traveled to the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp in Sidney to participate in the South Platte Natural Resource District's Natural Resource Day.

The students were divided into groups and traveled through eight different stations. Each station was focused on different Natural Resources, such as wildlife including mammals, birds and fish, soil and rocks. Each station had experts detail what natural resources they were focused on and provided the students with more information about how these particular resources interact and are necessary for the overall ecosystem.

Special thanks to Hilary Cook of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for her work with the Earthworms and Soil station, Alexa Davis of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources "Duck Duck Guess" station, Doug Hallum of the Conservation and Survey Division of the U.N. School of Natural Resources and their "ROCK Around the CLOCK" station, Mike Klosterman and Kelly Mildebrandt from Pheasants Forever and their Prairie Plants station, Amanda Sheppard of the North Platte Natural Resources District and her Tree Factory station, Madison Fell of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for their Marvelous Mammals station, Delanie Bruce of the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and their Great Bird Olympics station, and Amanda Filipi of the Wildcat Hills Nature Center and their Fishy Friends station.
