Sidney's newest business has officially opened its doors, Wild Starr Holistic Living Center located at 2201 Illinois Street is now open and operating for business. The brainchild behind the organic operation is Crystal Cook, herbalist and certified Reiki practitioner.

With a passion and precision for studying herbalism for the past 10 years, Cook has now delved into business ownership. Having noticed a need for her practice in the community and surrounding areas, she was also aware of the scarcity of items and how hard it was to source them locally, "We don't have anything like this in Sidney, instead of reaching out into the unknown such as Amazon to purchase a pound of an herb you don't know works for you, I'm here to offer a more convenient option." Cook partners with three different companies to offer non-GMO, organic products, "I will be getting more products in and am always willing to order whatever anyone is searching for."

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Cook's daughter Emma has been an integral part in the makings of Wild Starr coming to fruition. The mother and daughter duo work together as a powerhouse, balancing one another out with their skills, "I love how I'm able to do things with her, I like working with the things we sell in our shop," Emma mentions, "I feel accomplished, this is a big deal for my Mom."

When questioning the name Wild Starr, "Starr is my middle name, it's a sacred piece of me, hence the name," Cook says smiling.

Open to custom orders and private bookings, Cook is seeking clients who are looking for natural ways to heal themselves, "Your body is never completely at rest, through practices such as sound bathing people might find them to be helpful and healing."

An apothecary shop split into two rooms, the main serves as a storefront while the other acts as a space for private sessions and offerings, "The sound bath acts as a way for people to come in and relax from the busy hustle and bustle of life," Cook adds, "When you're here you're in a safe space." The bath is not only for individuals, "Our group sessions will be happening more often," Cook says, "Our small town has a very high suicide rate, I'm hoping to help combat some of that." With a set schedule for May, the practice will be offered May 17 from 8:00-9:00 pm, May 18 from 7:30-8:30 pm, May 25 from 8:00-9:00 pm, May 26 from 7:30-8:30 pm, and a special "Grateful Heart" session May 27 from 7:00-8:00 pm.

A standstill and a physical reminder, the storefront acts as a place to gather and heal, "There are enough herbs in the world for everyone," Cook adds, "still water doesn't move."

Wild Starr will be operating on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 am – 5:00 pm, and Sundays from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, and they are also available by appointment outside of the listed hours.
