Team to conduct housing survey

The Sidney East Expansion team is conducting a survey of potential homebuyers in the Sidney area. The expansion team is comprised of a collaboration of business leaders from Cabela’s as well as Sidney Regional Medical Center staff and City of Sidney officials.

The goal being put forth by the team is to bring economic benefit to the community, according to Dennis Armstrong, a Cabela’s corporate architect.

“It’s open to all residents, but we especially hope to hear from those who are in the market for a new home,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong said that the team is looking to collect useful data from not only potential homebuyers that live in the area but also people who are currently commuting to Sidney to work that are interested in calling the Sidney area their home.

Word of the survey has been sent around to staff at Cabela’s as well as major employers in the area so far, Armstrong said.

The team has also been working with City of Sidney City Manager Gary Person to make sure those interested in home-buying in the Sidney area get contacted.

Though the survey has reached employees in some major businesses around the area, Armstrong said the team wants to get awareness of the survey out to the whole community.

The survey will be accessible online until Jan. 23, and that date will only be extended if numerous responses are still being admitted after that date, he said. The survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LXHJBWS.

Seeing as some members of the community might not have personal access to a computer Armstrong said that staff at the Cheyenne County Community Center have authorized that those who would like to participate in the survey but are in need a computer can use the ones offered at the community center facility for such a purpose.

There will be no paper surveys offered – all submissions must be electronic.

Armstrong said that the results that the team gathers from the study will be incorporated into a market study that they are preparing.

“The market study will be used to entice homebuilders to come to Sidney and see demand so that they look to build in the area,” he said.

The Cabela’s architect said that the team hopes to be able to better define the needs of the community in relation to housing demand through this survey.
