Wesley E. ‘Wes’ Jensen, 93, of Sidney, passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care on Monday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2013.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Alm officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1 7 p.m. with family present from 4 to 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Wes’ name to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Frank Welch Masonic Lodge #75 or the Lodgepole Valley Shrine Club.

Wesley Eugene Jensen, the son of Soren C. and Emma A. (Petersen) Jensen was born at Ruskin, Nuckolls County, Neb., on July 6, 1919. The family moved to Gurley, Cheyenne County in 1923 where Wes attended grade school and graduated from Gurley High School. He attended Midland College in Fremont, Neb., and served in the United States Army from March 11, 1941 until Oct. 30, 1945. On Oct. 4, 1950, Wes was united in marriage to Evelyn M. Hespen at Fremont and they celebrated 62 years of marriage. They spent most of their married life on the farm south of Sidney where Wes was a farmer and rancher.

Wes was very active in a wide variety of activities including the Masons, Shriners, Pony Express Association, Sidney Saddle Club and the Elks. He was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where he ushered and enjoyed his service as a Cheyenne County Commissioner. Wes worked for several years at Greenlee’s Clothing Store and was a dealer for Titan Trailers. Cattle, horses and cats were in abundance at his farm, all centered around the string of seven Dalmatian dogs named “Pepper,” who filled their lives with great joy.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Sidney; his sister, Dorothy Preston of Greeley, Colo .; sisters-in-law, Shirley Jensen and husband George Candea-Kromm of Waterville, Kan., Delores Trumbo of Blair, and Mary Lou Hespen of Elkhorn, Neb .; 12 nieces and nephews; many great and great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous extended family members and friends.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bertha; and brothers, Dale, Clifford and Robert.
