WOW does Durang

SIDNEY – The Sidney Elks will host Way Out West Community Theatre as it presents an Evening of One Acts Feb. 8, 9 and 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. Both shows are by Christopher Durang and have been a growing experience for all involved.

“It has really stretched my skills as an actor. It has allowed me to try different acting techniques and get rid of my boundaries,” Erin Huddleston said. Huddleston was last seen in “Steel Magnolias” as Shelby, but is stepping outside her comfort zone to play Maggie 1 and Stella in Christopher Durang’s “Desire, Desire, Desire.”

Huddleston said this show is more of an adult production and is not suitable for children.

“Desire, Desire, Desire” will be the production that WOW takes to the Nebraska Association of Community Theatre competition in Minden, NE March 22-24 Huddleston said.

The Tennessee Williams’ parody “Desire, Desire, Desire” also features the talents of seasoned actress Katie Lo Re - newcomer to WOW, Lindsey Dellinger, Sean Anders, Nick Makris and Katie Mead.

Lo Re said she has been impressed with the cast’s eagerness to show up and work to create a true sense of ensemble.

Director Chris Egging said it has been fun working with the cast. Egging has a theater background and is excited to bring something different to the table.

“It has been a challenge,” he said, but appreciates the “actor’s willingness to go for it.”

The production “The Hardy Boys” has Nick Scripp joining Anders, Makris and Mead for this show about two naive sleuths.

Director Christopher Gabis said it has been fun, but it “pushes boundaries for the cast.”

Tickets are available at the Book Corner, Western Drug from the actors or at the door.
