Hiram “Seedy” Birdsong, 90, of Sidney, passed away at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013.

Cremation has taken place. No formal funeral services are planned.

Hiram Monroe “Seedy” Birdsong, the son of Herbert Monroe and Martha (Giesick) Birdsong,

was born on Jan. 3, 1923 at Hoisington, Kan. He graduated from Hoisington High School and attended a local junior college. Upon entering the oil field in central Kansas and parts of Oklahoma, Seedy held positions as a roughneck, driller, tool pusher and drilling superintendent. The family moved to Scottsbluff in 1964 and Seedy owned his own pumping business. In 1981 they moved to Sidney where Seedy was employed with the Nebraska Oil and Gas Commission as a field inspector. He spent his retirement years in Sidney.

Seedy is a 62 year member of the Masons. He enjoyed fishing the nine mile stretch of the North Platte River, hunting, reloading and cherished the time with and love of his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of Sidney; one son, Grady and wife Pamela of Denver; two daughters, Rhea Heskett and husband Dale of Rockwall, Texas, and Barbara Hutcheson and husband Wayland of Houston; one brother, Dwight Birdsong of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Mary Lou Kenyon and husband Wendall of Suwanec, Ga .; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Seedy was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert.
