Lisana Eckenrode joins The Sidney Sun-Telegraph staff

Her position to concentrate on schools, education, photography

Lisana Eckenrode is the newest reporter at the Sidney Sun-Telegraph.

Her appointment was announced by Sun-Telegraph Publisher Hank Bond on March 4.

Eckenrode came to Sidney from North Georgia where she was a staff writer at Fetch Your News. Her news assignments included covering breaking and hard news, health issues, festivals, community events, public meetings along with police and government.

In her last professional outing in the media before relocating to the upper midwest she worked as a correspondent for the Chattanooga Times Free Press where she reported breaking news for Gilmer County. In this position, she broke a major news story involving a triple-shooting and the subsequent investigation. The legal process of this story is still underway.

Lisana has also worked as a writer for U.S. Rider News motorcycle magazine where she covered bike nights and charity rides.

Lisana graduated with a BA in Communications from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta where she also minored in Art. She then went on to obtain an MS in Health Communications from Boston University.

Although she never planned to pursue a career as a wedding photographer, Lisana has recently honed her photography skills by photographing numerous weddings. Lisana has written enough poems “to fill a book,” which she plans to do in the future, and she is currently writing a stage play/musical, loosely based on her experiences when she resided in a loft apartment in Metro Atlanta.

Although Lisana’s print media background is limited, she has an extensive background in radio broadcasting.

Lisana has spent most of her life in Metro Atlanta, where she worked at WKLS as a promotions and programming assistant.

In North Georgia, she was on the air at WIVL, and she also produced a Georgia musicians showcase there, which had been a dream of hers for many years. In that capacity she hosted in-studio guests who played live on the radio.

At WLSB, she worked in sales and promotions.

For a few months, Lisana worked as a DJ at WRHQ in Savannah.

She spent a few years in New York, Louisiana and Massachusetts where she worked as a promotions and production assistant as well as on-air talent at stations that included WRCN, WKKL, Guaranty Broadcasting’s stations, and even worked as a traffic announcer at Shadow Broadcast Services in Baton Rouge.

She enjoyed working in the production department because she was able to be creative. But her favorite department was promotions because she was able to interact with the radio listeners in person and she enjoyed the big events and concerts.

From a music fan’s perspective, who wouldn’t love being backstage at his or her favorite band’s concert?

Lisana said, “I am happy to be in Sidney and I am looking forward to getting to know the people of the area while working at the Sun-Telegraph.”

“We are fortunate to attract a person with a diverse background of coverage assignments as Lisana is,” Bond said. “I am confident she will be able to play a part in the growth of the Sun-Telegraph.”
