Although yesterday began just like any other warm spring day, as the day progressed the sun rays turned into rain, and over night the rain froze to ice. As a result, I-80 and Hwy 30 closed today and trucks were required to park along city roads and in the parking lot of Wal-Mart until further notice. The road conditions and continual gusts of snow and ice also caused some local businesses to close for the day and for school children around the area to stay safe and warm at home. Among the closed establishments are Headstart programs, courthouses, libraries, some restaurants and hair salons, as well as the Cabela’s Distribution Center.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A large spring snowstorm delivering everything from heavy snow and high winds to freezing rain and possible tornadoes was causing travel problems from Wyoming to Chicago on Tuesday.
In Wyoming, a 100-mile stretch of Interstate 25 between Cheyenne and Douglas was closed as well as a 125-mile section of I-80 between Laramie and Rawlins. Many smaller highways in a majority of the state also were closed, slick or had no travel advisories.
More than a foot of snow had fallen as of midmorning in Lander. In Pine Bluffs, near the Nebraska border, wind has created 1- to 2- foot drifts...
