Fight in McDonald's parking lot leads to arrest of North Carolina man

On July 7, 41 year old Draven Watson of Hudson, North Carolina was charged with second degree assault and disturbing the peace for a fight that took place in the Sidney McDonald's parking lot.

Around 3 a.m., Sidney Police Officer Scott Tobler witnessed two men fighting near a Semi truck with its lights on in the lot. He observed a younger male he later identified as Tory Stacy punching an older male, later identified as Draven Watson, to the ground. Tobler then witnessed Watson get up and hit Stacy on the side of the head, according to the arrest affidavit.

After the altercation, Stacy allegedly told Tobler that he and his friends went to McDonald's for food after a night of drinking. The group reportedly shouted at the truck driver, Watson's uncle, and loudly criticized the way he parked his truck. According to Stacy, Watson approached the car after exiting McDonald's with his order and threatened them. Stacy then followed Watson back to the truck, where Watson allegedly pulled out a bat.

Stacy claimed that Waston then struck him in the head with the bat approximately seven times. He reportedly admitted that he punched Waston, as well, because he was afraid of being shot or stabbed. Stacy allegedly suggested that Watson had a knife and also threatened to shoot him.

Watson admitted that he walked up to the car with Stacy inside and that more than one of the passengers yelled obscenities at him, according to the arrest affidavit. Watson claimed that he went into the store to purchase food and afterward Stacy approached him. Watson was in possession of a tire iron, which Officer Tobler confiscated and placed in his vehicle.

Paramedics treated Stacy's wounds on site after he declined to be taken to the hospital. Stacy admitted to underage drinking and submitted to a preliminary breath test, which returned positive for alcohol. He received citations for third degree assault, minor in possession of alcohol and disturbing the peace, but was not detained.

Officer Tobler received consent from Watson's uncle to search the semi cab for a knife. No knife of any kind was found.

Watson was evaluated by paramedics and later transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was placed under arrest after being released from medical care.
