Alli Ehler led the Sidney Red Raiders girls cross country team to a first-place finish at the 36th Annual Liberty Bell Cross Country Invitational in Littleton, Colo. on Friday.

Meanwhile the boys team finished in seventh place, as they had four runners crack the 19-minute mark. Jachob Wiedeburg (18:09), Hayden Lienemann (18:44), Jacob Schaub (18:49), Brody McKnight (18:50), Logan Uhlir (19:15), Ryan Birner (19:21) and Will Castner (19:28) all competed for Sidney.

Behind Sidney in the girls team competition were Vista Ridge (82) and Valor Christian (107). Ehler's time of 20:30 was good enough to secure third place individually. The other varisty runners were Madisen Stafford (21:38), Abby Heller (22:05), Erin Lindeman (22:11), Mia Hernandez (22:28), Jami Flores (22:37) and Ashley Stafford (24:18). The top five runners for each team counted in the team score.

"This was our first time going to this meet and we really didn't know what to expect," said Raiders Head Coach Tony Neels. "Everyone ran a much faster time than a week ago which is very encouraging."

All of the Raider girls finished in the top 50. Of the five scores that counted towards the team score, all were in the top 30.

"I couldn't be more proud of how the this group of girls ran today," said Neels. "They all had an outstanding day and were extremely excited when we found out that we had won the meet."

All of the boys finished in the top 50 as well with Wiedeburg leading the way in 27th.

"The boys all ran well against some difficult competition today," Neels said. "It was a great experience to be able to race against some different teams.

"This is the most talented group of boys I've had in the last three years. The potential is there, we just need to keep getting better each week," concluded Neels.

The Raiders' cross country teams travel to McCook next Friday for their next meet. The action is scheduled for 1 p.m. CDT.
