Late Storm surge falls short at Paxton

After trailing by 14 points at the half, Creek Valley rallied in the third quarter but still fell short at the Paxton Tigers in girls basketball action on Thursday night.

With the 59-48 loss, the Storm’s record fell to 7-3. Paxton upped their mark to 4-7 after the non-district game.

Summer Mueller was at the top of the scoresheet with 20 points. Jill Behrends added 10 while Jerry Straber and Shania Brown tacked on 6 each. Straber and Mueller’s offensive production included 4 assists apiece.

Defensively, the Storm pulled off 15 steals in the game and were again led by Straber and Mueller. They had 3 thefts each. Brown collected the most boards with 11 and Hannah Schievelbein pulled down 9.

Though the Storm outshot the Tigers 108-68, the team struggled with an off target night. From the floor the visitors were just 22 percent.

Creek Valley will take on its next challenge in the MAC Tournament which begins on Tuesday. The Storm will not take to the floor again until Thursday at 4:45 p.m. at Sidney Middle School.

As the No. 1 seed, Creek Valley earned a bye in Tuesday’s opening round. The Thursday game will have the Storm facing the winner of Tuesday’s Leyton/South Platte contest at Dalton.
