Raiders take 10th in top-notch invitational

Robb continues undefeated season with win at 138 lbs.

Though Derek Robb again rolled through the competition at 138 pounds, the Sidney High wresting team struggled to a 10th-place finish at the Jim Higgins Invite in Lexington on Saturday.

Kearney won the 15-team meet with 199.5 points, while Lincoln Southwest (192.5), Hastings (176), Millard West (131) and Scott City (118.5) rounded out the top five. The Red Raiders' point total was 72.

Robb upped his season record to 33-0 and garnered 26 of the Raiders team points on the day. After receiving a bye in the first round, Robb pinned Rodrigo De La Torre of Lexington lin 1:05. In the semifinals he had all he could handle with James Jurgens (20-5) of Scott City. Robb required overtime to beat Jurgens in sudden victory, 11-9.

Robb faced another tough challenge in the finals as he met Jake Oltman of Lincoln Southwest who came in with a 29-3 record. Robb, however, handed Oltman his fourth loss of the season by a fall shortly before the second period ended (3:55).

Though Michael Muggli had to settle for third place at 145, he won four of five matches fto improve to 32-4 on the year. After winning his first two matches, Muggli was on the short end of a 10-5 decision to DaShawn Dixon (28-2) of Hastings. In the battle for third place, Muggli won by a 5-0 decision over Trevar Bigelow of Kearney. The Sidney senior earned 17 points for the Raiders.

Dominic Beyer (25-9) earned 16 points for the Sidney after finishing fourth at 285. Beyer concluded his day with a record of 3-2. He narrowly lost the third-place match by a 3-1 decision to Lane Hayes (25-9) of Scott City.

Kaden Vowers (26-7) had his momentum slowed slightly after his day included two wins and two losses. He collected seven team points with his pair of wins. Colton Peckham finished sixth at 113 to earn four points for the Raiders. Peckham, 20-12 on the season, dropped a 14-9 decision in the fifth-place match to Alex Guerra of North Platte.

At 170, Patraic Hays pulled out three-team points after he pinned Christian Posekany of Bennington at 2:27 in the second round of consolation matches. No other Raiders managed to win a match on the day.

With districts less than three weeks away, the Raiders will look to regroup at Mitchell on Saturday. The first match is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
