Trunk or Treat event on tap for Friday

Trick-or-treating will come a day early to celebrate the third annual Trunk or Treat night at Hickory Street Square in downtown Sidney.

According to Kim Phillips, a coordinator for the event, there are 28 businesses and organizations that have registered to pass out goodies this year. It will be held Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

"All of the city departments will be there as well as a firetruck, the bookmobile and a street machine," Phillips said. "There will also be a lot of the local businesses involved."

The event is expected to have at least 400 kids turn out, and the street will be blocked off for guests. Participants giving out candy will be able to arrive at 3 p.m. to set up their trunks.

"It just provides a safe place for kids to come," she said. "It's not on Halloween, so they will have two nights of trick-or-treating. It also really gives the community a chance to pull together."
