Christmas Kickoff on tap for Saturday

The annual Holidays in Hickory Square Christmas Kickoff will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

According to Bev Arellano of the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, the event draws a couple hundred people downtown. The celebration has taken place in Sidney for more than 25 years.

This year's kickoff will include hot chocolate and coffee for purchase provided by the Cheyenne County Young Professionals group.

Union Pacific will give mini train rides until 4:30 p.m. Santa will also be at the Elks Lodge in Sidney for pictures.

Saturday's festivities will conclude with the 2nd annual Parade of Lights and a soup supper at the Elks Lodge. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree.

Each Saturday until Dec. 18, there will be activities, events promoting the businesses in downtown Sidney, Christmas carols around the Christmas tree and pictures with Santa.

"We hope that everyone can come out for at least one Saturday if not all of them," Arellano said.
