Court Case Advances Against Christofferson

A Sidney man was arraigned Tuesday morning in Cheyenne County District Court on charges of Using a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony (Class II Felony), Terroristic Threats (Class IIIA Felony), and Strangulation (Class IIIA Felony).

Troy A. Christofferson, 20, of Sidney, was arrested after officers responded to the front of Stewies Bar, 1005 10th Ave., at 1:58 a.m. Dec. 24. According to the arrest affidavit, officers were on regular patrol when they were dispatched to a reported disturbance involving a woman who had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend.

At the scene, officers met with a woman who was described as visibly upset and crying. She reported she had been strangled by her boyfriend, and that he also held a knife to her throat. According to the affidavit, her boyfriend is known as Troy Christofferson.

She told police he was outside of the apartment rented by her and Christofferson at the time of the report. When officers met Christofferson at the apartment, he said he and the victim “got into a scuffle,” according to the affidavit. Officers noted a large bump on Tyan’s forehead, rad marks on her hceks and redness on her neck, as well as a red abrasion just above Christofferson’s nose.

Christofferson also admitted to police that “whatever she told you is true.” He admitted to officers he put his hands on her neck, and that he held a knife to her throat. He then showed officers where he kept the knives, specifically a folding knife from a small table.

Christofferson and his girlfriend got into an argument while playing a video game, according to the affidavit. She left the room and he followed her to the bedroom where he started slapping her in the face. According to the affidavit, he continued assaulting her, including putting both hands on her throat until she believed she lost consciousness.

Christofferson appeared in Cheyenne County District Court Thursday, Jan. 4, for his Preliminary Hearing on the charges. With testimony from Sidney Police officers, the court determined that the charged offenses did occur and that there is probable cause to believe that Christofferson committed them.

The victim was transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.
