Sidney Staged to Celebrate Christmas Saturday

Saturday in Sidney will be busy with Christmas excitement as the Parade of Lights takes center stage.

While the prediction is for snow, the Holidays in Hickory Square Christmas Kick-off and Parade of Lights starts at 2 p.m. with crafts and games in the tent. The event is scheduled to last until 4 p.m. and is hosted by the American Bank of Sidney.

Warm up at 3 p.m. with a hot chocolate or cider, compliments of Security First Bank & Insurance, and S'Mores compliments of Fox Theatre.

The Cake Walk takes place at 4 p.m. An Ugly Sweater Contest for people of all ages starts at 4:30 p.m. and the Parade of Lights and Tree Lighting begins at 5:30 p.m. There are three categories for parade floats this year: Griswald, Parade Theme (Buddy the Elf) or Organization/Club/School. This year's parade has more than double the expected float entries, according to event organizers, with 25 parade entries as of Wednesday. The parade route is Illinois Street from 14th Avenue to 8th Avenue. CASA will be offering a chili, cinnamon roll and beverage meal for $5, served from 4 p.m. until supplies are gone.

Prior to the Hickory Square festivities, The Fox Theatre will be showing "Elf" at 2 p.m. Admission is $1 or two canned goods. The Christmas Craft Show will be at the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair at the Cheyenne County Community is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Sidney High School Spanish Club will also be offering gift wrapping at 1136 Illinois St.
