Sidney Wins Home Invitational

Sidney's Red Raider wrestling team had a busy and successful weekend, starting on Friday when they hosted the Fort Morgan, Colo., Mustangs in a dual meet at Sidney High School.

The Fort Morgan squad gave the Red Raiders a good battle, but the Sidney boy's were too much for the Mustangs to handle, and Sidney earned a 50-to-25 win in the dual.

On Saturday, the Red Raiders hosted the annual Sidney-Bridgeport Invitational Tournament, with 18 teams from the Panhandle, Colorado, and Wyoming competing. The field had numerous state qualifiers and placers spread across the brackets. The Sidney JV and Varsity wrestlers were aggressive and effective all day, and continued to improve as the day progressed.

"We wrestled better as the day went on and turned on the jets for the semi-finals and finals resulting in six champions, 12 total medal winners, and a team championship," said Sidney wrestling coach Beau McConnell.

The Red Raiders next travel to Ogallala on Thursday to face district opponents Ogallala and McCook, then travel to Broken Bow on Friday for tournament action prior to the holiday break.
