City Receives Energy Donation

The City of Sidney received a $24,665 donation from the Public Alliance for Community Energy (ACE) Tuesday.

The donation is a portion of $300,000 being returned to communities through ACE’s revenue return program. The $300,000 is divided among the 72 Nebraska member communities in the company’s revenue return program.

The check was presented to the city council by board member Mike Palmer, Sidney’s electrical superintendent. Palmer said any revenue that exceeds operation costs is returned to member cities.

Palmer said the funds go to the General Fund and are usually earmarked for Parks projects: stocking fish at Legion Park, sometimes playground equipment at one of the city parks. He said last year the return was about $275,000 with the City of Sidney receiving about $20,000.

This is the 21st year ACE has returned proceeds to its member communities.

Palmer stressed customers can choose their power provider. The ACE press release states the Nebraska Choice Gas program 2019 selection period is set for April 12-25. Customers may choose their energy provider online at http://www.ACEenergy.org, or by phone at 1-800-454-4759. Selection forms will be mailed out to all eligible customers prior to the start of the selection period. Early signup pricing is also available by calling ACE at the above number.

ACE is a not-for-profit community-owned natural gas supplier. Since its beginning in 1998, ACE has returned more than $2.3 million to member communities, including about $162,000 to Sidney.
