Potter Days Grand Marshals

The Potter community will be celebrating the 88th Annual Potter Days Aug. 30-Sept. 1.

The weekend kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 28, with the crowning of Miss Potter at the Legion Hall at 7 p.m.

Activities pick on Friday with arts and crafts, inflatable bounce houses, agriculture and household exhibits, kids games, a fun run and as the night approaches there will be a beer garden, live band, popcorn bar and fireworks at dusk.

The parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday with the theme "Enjoy the Ride." Dale and Lyllian Dedic are this year's Grand Marshalls.

Dale and Lyllian Dedic have been selected Grand Marshals for Potter Days 2019. They will reign over the Aug. 28, 30, 31 and September 1 celebration.

Dale was born in Sidney and raised in Potter, graduating in 1958 from Potter High School. He attended Wesleyan University in Lincoln and worked for the State Department of Roads. He joined the US Navy and was stationed at Treasure Island CA, for one year. Dale then served two tours off the coast of Viet Nam on the USS Hollister.

Lyl was born in Longmont, Colo. Following school there, she attended the University of Northern Colorado.

Dale and Lyl both worked for IBM in Boulder, Colo., and were married in 1975. They moved to Tucson Ariz., where he was transferred and she worked at an Elementary and Junior High School for 15 years.

In 1994 he retired and they moved to Potter. They opened the Chestnut Street Memory Station, an antique store, and Lyl worked for Cabela's for a few years.

Lyl serves on the Potter Museum Board, was a proofreader for the Coyote Caller and enjoys gardening and yard work. Dale is a member of the Potter Historical Foundation Board, Potter Community Improvement, the Cemetery Board, Potter Lions Club and the American Legion. He also added his thespian talents to many melodramas in Potter.

Dale and Lyl have five children, Trent and Tammie Dedic, Trisha and John Edwards and Tiffany and Wayne Rafferty, all of Berthoud, Colo.; Angela Edwards of Potter; and Shannon and Anthony Portillo of Shingle Springs, Calif. They have seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

There will be co-ed sand volleyball throughout the day at Railroad Park. The band "In the Groove Duo" will be on stage from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Duck Pin Bowling contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also, the beer garden opens at 11 a.m., as does the Cornhole and Chicken Poo Bingo. A silent auction at Workhorse Automotive is also scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A free community barbecue will be held downtown at noon.

The Legion Show will be on stage at the Legion Hall at 2:30 p.m.

Potter School will be open for tours from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

A watermelon feed is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. downtown.

This year, people are invited to challenge their sweet tooth with the Tin Roof Sundae Eating Contest, 4 p.m. at Railroad Park.

Mini Bull Riding will be available 7 p.m. at the Good Times Rodeo Arena. Cost is $5 and under 12 are free. Contestants can register by Aug. 28 by contacting J.R. Yearous at 308-249-7834.

"Steele-Toed Boots" closes the night at Bags'Bar beginning at 8 p.m.

Sunday is the four-person scramble golf tournament at Prairie Pines Golf Course; 10 a.m. Registration and 10:30 a.m. tee time. Contact Dennis Slama at 879-4461 or the golf course at 879-4469.
