Wyoming Couple Arrested on Theft-related Charges

A Cheyenne, Wyo., woman and a Gillette, Wyo., man were arrested Dec. 14 in the 3000 block of Silverberg Drive after police responded to a report of a theft.

Sidney Police responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at Walmart, 3001 Silverberg Drive, at about 11:40 a.m. Dec. 14. According to the arrest affidavit, dispatch reported a female was involved and had left the store and was in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. Dispatch also reported the Asset Protection Officer believed the male suspect was still in the store. The responding officer learned while enroute that the female had pickup near a black truck-trailer.

Upon arriving, the officer was contacted by a man who reported the female was in a while truck by a semi. The officer activated his in-car camera, then approached the driver's window of the truck.

A woman in the driver's seat identified herself as Leann M. Bundy, 29. According to the report, Bundy denied she had stolen anything. She said her boyfriend whom she identified as Eric Creed, 22, had purchased the merchandise seen in the vehicle.

She was told to remain in the vehicle while the officer did a background check on her.

The officer met with a man approaching the vehicle who identified himself as Devan Stanford, 24. He identified Bundy as Amber Bundy. Bundy admitted her correct name and officers learned she had a federal warrant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and was considered armed and dangerous.

The truck they were in did not have license plates. A VIN check confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from Cheyenne, Wyo., that morning. A search of the pickup produced several containers of new and used needles with residue inside them, as well as a spoon beside the needles.

Bundy was taken into custody for shoplifting, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction and the federal warrant.

Stanford did not have any active warrants. He was arrested on charges of Theft stolen property over $5,000 and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bundy told police she did not know the pickup was stolen but would not say how she was in it. Stanford told officers the pickup belongs to a friend, but would not say the friend's name.

Bundy and Stanford were advised of their rights and booked in Cheyenne County Jail.
