Alliance Takes Sidney Invite

A day’s delay of the Sidney Invitational at Hillside Golf Course was the smart move as the rain and snow flurries of the previous day were replaced by sunshine and blustery winds by Thursday morning’s start time.

Although the wind was challenging, the sunshine and dry skies made course conditions good for the golfers from the eight teams at the competition.

The Alliance team showed why they’ve been the leaders in the panhandle for the last few years, turning in a team score of 339 bolstered by three top-ten finishes by their squad. Ogallala’s Caleb Castillo had the low round of the day with an 82, taking first with a tie-breaker over Alliance’s Crayten Cyza who also finished with an 82. Tristen and Taytom Timbers placed third and fourth for Alliance, both with final scores of 83.

Sidney’s young team struggled in the competition, with no golfers cracking the top ten at the end of the day. The Sidney team placed seventh with a score of 412, led by sophomore Jon Beier with a score of 93. Trey Douglas and Wyatt Hickenlively both shot 104’s, Jaeden Dillehay finished his round with a 111 while Cole Hanley ended with a 117. Junior Varsity golfer Logan Johnson had the low Sidney score of the day with a 92. Sidney was next scheduled to compete at the Mitchell Invitational on Tuesday.
