Gary L. McKinney

Gary L. McKinney, age 71, of Potter, NE passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at his home. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Potter Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Following services, everyone is invited to the Potter Fire Hall for refreshments and to share memories of Gary.

Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Gary’s care and funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Potter Rescue Unit.

Gary was born on March 15, 1950 in Sidney, NE to Dale and Leota (Mathewson) McKinney. He attended Potter High School and served in the Wyoming Air National Guard. Gary became sober in September 1983 and was an active member in the local and State AA program for 38 years where he served as District 13 Representative. His passion in life was to help others participating in the program. He was very proud of this achievement.

He is survived by his brother, Glen and wife Lynn McKinney of Potter, sisters, Darlene Stratton of Ogallala, Marlene McKinney of Kimball and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Leota McKinney, grandparents, Dude and Kate Mathewson and Cecil and Nell McKinney, niece, Katrina Murphy.
