County Appoints New Tourism Director

A few months ago, Kevin Howard announced his retirement as tourism director for Cheyenne County.

After extending his exit date by more than a month, Cheyenne County has a candidate to step into his shoes.

She is known from several positions in the county, many of them in a service capacity; from carrying on the Tin Roof Sundae tradition to firearms and restarting a coffee shop, and her involvement with the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce.

Kendra Mitchell was confirmed as the next Tourism Director during Monday's meeting of the county commissioners. Her first day will be May 31. She is currently on staff at Highbys Outdoors. Her last day at Highbys is May 28.

She said she has been very involved with the Chamber and programs that help promote local business. She also has an MBA in marketing and wants to apply her degree.

“I am really quite excited to promote Cheyenne County and help it grow,” she said.

In addition to her new role as tourism director, she is to be the Chamber board chairman next year, serves as a trustee on the Potter Village Board, and is on the Potter Community Impact Group.

She admitted that while meeting people and promoting the community is her passion, she still has a lot to learn.

“I definitely want to do things to bring people to Sidney, Cheyenne County,” she said.
