Sidney Grapplers Compete At State Tournament

Sidney freshman Zech Roggasch was in control and on his way to defeating Cesar Lineras of Crete at the NSAA State Tournament in Omaha.

Four Red Raider Wrestlers qualified for the State Tournament, and left on Wednesday, February 15, for the CHI Health Center in Omaha to compete starting on Thursday.

The qualifiers were junior Landon Hanes at 285 pounds, freshman Zech Roggasch at 160 pounds, Jadyn Cottam at 105 pounds and Saphira Whitely at 190 pounds.

Landon Hanes was defeated by Owen Rowell of Auburn by Fall at 1:51 in his first match, then was defeated by Orion Parker of Plattsmouth by 7-1 decision in his second match.

Zech Roggasch was defeated by Hayden Russman of Cozad by 4-2 decision, then beat Cesar Linares of Crete in a Sudden Victory, 8-6. he then lost to Dalton Rhoten of Bennignton in a major decision, 10-1.

For the girls, Jadyn Cottam defeated Tyonna Brown of Omaha North Girls Academy by Fall at 0:56, then was defeated by Carsyn McBride of Amherst Girls Academy by Fall at 5:28. Cottam then defeated Elaine Fletcher of Bellevue East Girls Academy by Fall at 4:25, and then lost a 7-0 decision to Tiearra Pollard of Norfolk Girls Academy.

Saphira Whitley lost to Tawny Irvin of Logan View Girls Academy by Fall at 2:43, then beat Stephanie Donjuan Mendoza of Crete Girls Academy by Fall at 0:55. Whitley then lost to Martha Hinneh of Omaha Marian Girls Academy by Fall at 3:29.
