    On Tuesday, Sullivan Hills Camp hosted a Business After Hours event at Buffalo Point Steakhouse and Grill. Sullivan Hills is a 640-acre campground located north of Lodgepole.   • Fairgrounds board appointments withdrawn as county moves to voluntary model

    The Status Advisory Board for the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds Foundation appeared before the Board of Commissioners because they discovered that an appointed board was unnecessary, as the foundation created falls under the umbrella of the Nebraska Community Foundation. As part of this community foundation oversight, the board can be driven by volunteer participation.   • Wreath contest brings festive color to downtown businesses

    The Cheyenne County Ladies Chamber is putting on a Christmas wreath contest open to organizations and individuals. The wreaths will be displayed in windows of businesses throughout downtown Sidney until Dec. 22. The contest will be separated into youth and adult divisions.     The volleyball team at Sidney High School presented a check for over $540 to Brenda Noel, president of the Night of Hope organization on Friday afternoon. The team had a "pink out" for their block out cancer game on Tuesday. The Night of Hope organization funds patient aid and assistance wherever income and insurance end.     Judge Derek Weimer and Officer Curtis Hofrock held an assembly at Sidney Middle School to inform seventh and eighth grade students about the implications of using smart phones in dumb ways.     The Onken's spent one Sunday afternoon putting up decorations throughout their yard. Amanda spent an entire day drilling holes in some pumpkins, filling them with Christmas lights and making them into topiaries. Unfortunately, the inconsistent weather caused the topiaries to shrivel.     October is breast cancer awareness month. The National Football League honors this by wearing pink accessories with their uniforms. The Sidney Raiders football players each donated $10 in order to wear pink socks and sweatbands in one of their games this month.     County Highway Superintendent Tom Noel met with the Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners on Monday to discuss the cost of recent mishaps, as well a progress in pouring gravel along roadbeds. Noel reported special labor costs to the board of $3,375. These covered the work of those assigned to fixing the hood of a county truck after a tire blew out.     National Drug Take Back Day will be held locally on Oct. 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Sidney Police Department. Drug take back is a program set up by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and is a safe way for people to dispose of their unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications. It peaks in the dead of winter between January and February, but bears a striking resemblance to the hockey season, as it can span from October through May.
