Under cloudy skies with misty air and an occassional steady rain, the Creek Valley Storm held its annual Invite at the Chappell Golf Club with nine teams attending.
The Storm finished in the middle of the pack with 384 strokes, which placed them fifth. The Bulldogs of Bridgeport won the Invite with a 334 total, which put them 11 strokes ahead of Dundy County/Stratton.
Among its four district challengers, Creek Valley finished ahead of South Platte (417), Garden County (417) and Hyannis (486). Mullen (362) and Sutherland (379) finished ahead of the Storm. Districts are scheduled for May 18, at Oregon Trail Golf Course in Sutherland. The top three teams at districts will qualify for state.
The individual competition was won by Eric Stevens of Bridgeport with a 77, with Kaleb Wonderly (79) of Dundy County/Stratton taking the runner-up spot. Creek Valley had a pair of golfers break 90. Brett Godfrey and Austin Rowley both scored 88. The team scores were completed by Wyatt McMillen (101), Ben Cabela (107) and Michael Rahe (112).
“The scores put up by the other teams were all pretty competitive,” said Storm head coach Cyd Hanson. “It was nice to see Brett and Austin break 90. We expect them to be able to shoot in the 80’s so maybe this is the beginning of a good trend.”
The Storm will be at the Kimball Invite on Thursday with the first shot scheduled to be struck at 9 a.m.
