Sidney's Arellano Signs To Wrestle With NJC

Sidney High School senior Trey Arellano signed a letter of intent to wrestle for the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen in Sterling, Colo., for the 2019-20 season. Arellano, a two-time state champion while wrestling for the Red Raiders, was surrounded by family and coaches Wednesday as he signed his letter of intent for the Plainsmen.

"They have a great program, and it's so close to home. I'm really excited to be a part of the team", said Arellano.

Arellano plans on studying Biology at NJC. Arellano was a four-time State qualifier, a three-time finalist, and a two-time State Champion and compiled a 45-and-3 record in his senior year. Arellano's success and proximity attracted the attention of NJC interim head coach Adam Fierro.

"We knew about Trey and watched a lot of video on him, so we had a lot of interest. When he came down for a recruiting trip, he wrestled one of our guys who was a four time state champ in Idaho, and Trey took it to him. We were really impressed and excited to have him as a Plainsman", said Fierro.

Arellano had a large contingent of family members present to share the moment, all proud of his achievements and happy that he will be able to wrestle and continue his education close to home.
