Sidney Residents Cautioned about Bindweed Infestation

Sidney officials have been noticing a wide spread of Bindweed on properties in the community.

Bindweed is included in the Ordinance that reads Certain Vegetation is Prohibited (#642.04).

We are wanting to put some education out there to everyone on Bindweed and how easily it spreads and how difficult it can be to get rid of. We are asking residents that notice this weed growing on any part of their property to please start taking the appropriate steps to get rid of it.

Below are a couple of websites you can visit that provide further information on control and prevention steps. A picture of what Bindweed looks like is posted on one of the articles.

Overall, the best strategy to use against bindweed is the early recognition of the problem and persistence.

No matter which method of control you choose to adopt, it is important to realize that control is not a one application or one-pass task. Successful control includes monitoring the progress of the plant and repeated, timely implementation of the control method.

If you have questions and/or comments or would like a list of commercial lawn care/weed prevention services in Sidney, please refer them to Code Enforcement at the Sidney Police Department 308-254-5515.
