    The trial set to begin next week for a 40-year-old Wyoming man arrested last fall following a two-state car chase has been called off. On Friday, Joseph Mladenik pleaded no contest to three offenses: operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and attempted possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, both felonies, and refusal to submit a chemical test, a misdemeanor.     Cheyenne County first responders were able to train in a live fire scenario last weekend. A house along U.S. Hwy. 385, south of Gurley, was donated by Adams Industries for crews to conduct training in.     Lula Mae Clark, 97 of Chappell, passed away peacefully, Dec. 2, 2015 at the Sedgwick County Hospital in Julesburg, Colo. with family members by her side. She had survived several years of generally declining health. The funeral and memorial service in her honor will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 10 in the Chappell United Methodist Church with Rev. David Abbott officiating.     Last week I visited about the results of the biological tests we ran on our winter wheat stubble, which showed very low microbial activity. The winter wheat sample had a total microbial biomass number of only 1,248.84. This low result would be expected since there is not much actively growing in the field and the residue is a high carbon-low nitrogen type residue.
