    Cheyenne County Commissioners will be holding a hearing to decide if Common mullein should be added as a noxious weed in Cheyenne County. Common mullein (Verbascim thapsus) is a non-native species that occurs throughout most of North America. It’s origins in America are attributed to US settlers and Native Americans, due to it’s many uses.     Cheyenne County Commissioners held further discussions about the vacant Assessor position in Monday’s regular meeting. In a previous meeting, Commissioners extended the deadline to accept applications for the recently vacated Cheyenne County Assessor position. The extension was made to expand advertising for the position to the other end of the State.     Sidney High School (SPS) recently hosted the Class B-6 District Play Production Contest in Sidney, placing fifth in the contest. The District Play Production Contest was held Dec. 3 at the Sidney High School Performing Arts Center. Coach Marsha Thorpe said eight schools participated in the contest.     Cabela’s held it’s Annual Shareholders meeting in Sidney on Tuesday morning, and discussion of the pending merger were not among agenda items. The shareholders meeting, usually held in May or June was delayed after a large portion of the company’s shares were purchased by an investment group, Elliot Associates.     Sidney students participated in a preliminary spelling bee last week, earning the chance to advance to the Cheyenne County Spelling Bee that will be held in January. Thirty-five fourth, fifth and sixth grade students participated in in the spelling bee, held at the West Elementary auditorium.     Nebraskan hunters get the opportunity to help feed the hungry by donating their deer to the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program. The HHH program is a Nebraska Game and Parks program created by the Nebraska Legislature in April 2012. The program provides pure ground venison to Nebraskans in need. According to the Neb.     This election had no shortage of controversy, with voters drawing a clear line in the sand, voter turnout was higher then it has been in the past. In the last general election in 2014, there were 6,989 registered voters, with only 2,914 turning out to cast their votes.
