  • Storm Loses to Perkins, South Platte

    Mike Motz, Sports Writer|Feb 16, 2022

Creek Valley's Storm Basketball team continued their struggle of a season with two more losses over the past week. Last Tuesday, the Storm hosted the Perkins County Plainsmen, and quickly fell into a hole. The Perkins County defense was too tough for Creek Valley, limiting their shots and making every point difficult. After putting up 21 points in the first, Perkins County turned around and put up 21 more points in the second quarter to go into the half up 42-to-15. The third quarter again...

  • Lady Coyotes Drop Two Games

    Mike Motz, Sports Writer|Feb 16, 2022

Potter-Dix's Lady Coyote Basketball team has struggled thorough most of the season, but have shown continuous improvement and have battled hard against their opponents. On Friday, the Lady Longhorns of Hyannis came for a visit, and the game was a battle the whole way. After trailing most of the way, the Lady Coyotes were able to get within three at 30-to-27 in the final minutes of the third quarter. However, the Lady Coyote offense stalled and ended the period down by four at 33-to-29. The Lady...

  • Leyton Has Tough Finish

    Mike Motz, Sports Writer|Feb 16, 2022

Leyton's Lady Warrior Basketball team had a tough finish to their regular season, dropping their final two games as they head into Subdistrict play this week. Last Tuesday, Leyton hosted Bayard, and the tough Lady Tiger team jumped out fast, building up a big 22-to-6 lead at the end of the first period. Leyton adjusted and tightened their defense, but still had problems scoring and went into the half down 33-to-15. However, the Lady Warriors could not beat the defense, and again only had five...

  • Lady Storm Struggles Against Perkins, South Platte

    Mike Motz, Sports Writer|Feb 16, 2022

Creek Valley's Lady Storm Basketball team finished up their regular season campaign last week, with a loss to Perkins County on Tuesday and South Platte on Friday. On Tuesday, the Lady Plainsmen came into Chappell for their final contest of the regular season, and started hot in the first period. Seemingly scoring at will while stonewalling the Lady Storm's offense, the Lady Plainsmen went up 23-to-6 and carried that momentum over into the second period, going up 39-to-9 at the half. The Creek...

  • Leyton's Warriors Win In Double-OT

    Mike Motz, Sports Writer|Feb 16, 2022

Earlier in the season at the MAC Tournament, Leyton matched up against Bayard in the semi-final round of the tournament, and jumped out to a big lead against the Tigers. However, the Warriors could not hold on, and Bayard stormed back to take a seven point victory and move on to the finals against Potter-Dix. Last Tuesday, Leyton again opened hot, taking a quick 8-to-2 lead in a defense-heavy first quarter. However, Bayard battled back quickly and turned the tables on Leyton, ending the first...

  • Straight Talk from Steve: LB773

    Steve Erdman, District 47|Feb 16, 2022

One of the bills that I have co-signed this year is LB 773. This bill would authorize private citizens to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. Currently, the Concealed Handgun Permit Act allows cities to restrict the concealing of a handgun only to authorized permit holders. LB 773 would allow all Nebraskans to conceal their weapons anywhere in the state without having to carry such a permit. However, the bill would not apply to those who have already been prohibited from carrying a handgu...

  • Delta Dawn When the Light Comes On: Week 6

Ivy Joy Johnson, The Joy Mission|Feb 16, 2022

Initiative sparked by incentive reaches for such deep desires as we are willing to strive toward. Humility cries out to the ‘unseen puller of our plow’; the Source of life, guidance, understanding, even peace. Humility in our leadership is paramount. James 4:6-7: “He says, ‘God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble’. Therefore, submit yourself under the mighty hand of God.” Men who placed themselves “under the mighty hand of God.” include some 250 Founding Fathers who constructed a C...

  • Benson's View on Jan. 6 Questioned

    Warren Phelps, Guest Columnist|Feb 16, 2022

After reading Mr. Bensons’ recent column on his take on the events at the US Capitol on January 6th, 2021 I feel I must write a response. He starts his column by stating Donald Trump lost the 2020 Presidential election. I think it would be more accurate to say former Senator and Vice President Joe Biden appeared to be the winner as the votes were tabulated. Trump received 74.2 million votes and Biden 81.2 million votes nationwide. Both are unusually high numbers. Barack Obama received 69.5 m...

  • Immigration

    William H. Benson, columnist|Feb 16, 2022

Immigration is not for the faint of heart. With high school diploma in hand, a young African from Ghana named Robert Kosi Tette came to the United States in 1998, leaving behind family, friends, and “a simple life of blissful innocence.” Ten years later, he described his decade in America, in an article that appeared in the March 1, 2008 issue of Newsweek, that he entitled “An Immigrant’s Silent Struggle.” In it, he said, “It was as though I had run ten consecutive marathons, one for each ye...
